The Geneva Festival (or Fêtes de Genève) is held from the end of July to early August, and for visitors to the city in the summer this is an extravaganza of fun and entertainment.
Thousands of people flock to Geneva for the festivities, all keen to see such attractions as the boat races, the huge fireworks displays, the numerous fairground attractions and the lake parade. Over the 10 days that the festival takes place, there are over 100 concerts; so it’s no surprise that so many people from far and wide arrive in the city during this period to enjoy the fun.
International Flower Show
If peace and quiet are more your things head to Geneva during November for the International Flower Show (Floralies Internationales). Here you will find yourself surrounded by spectacular colours and aromas as international participants arrive to show the crowds their flower-arranging skills. It is held at the Palexpo Exhibition Centre, so do check it out if you are interested in seeing some spectacular flower arranging.
Coupe de Noël
This is not a festival that many people will want to take part in, but it is great fun to watch. If you happen to be organising your Geneva airport transfers around the middle of December then you might be lucky enough to spot some brave (or stupid) participants jumping into the freezing Lake Geneva. If you want to enjoy the spectacle then head to Jardin Anglais.
Europ’Art
For art lovers, the time to visit the city is at the beginning of May when the Europ’Art art festival takes place. This is held at the Palexpo Exhibition Centre, where you will be able to enjoy a whole range of different styles of art, from classical to more contemporary works.
